About Scoot to the Stars Rescue

SCOOT TO THE STARS RESCUE is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and caring for animals with special needs. Through the care of these animals, as well as community resources and education, it is our goal to show the world that pets with disabilities can live happy and fulfilling lives.

Scooter and Marie's Story

Marie Syrovy, founder of SCOOT TO THE STARS RESCUE, rescued Scooter from a shelter after he had been paralyzed from a suspected abuse case. Upon bringing Scooter home, Marie jumped into the world of caring for a dog with special needs. There was a lot to learn and at times it felt overwhelming and isolating.

Throughout this learning process, Marie discovered a wonderful community of special needs pets and their families. It quickly became a passion to learn more, not only to help Scooter, but to help other dogs like him. In doing so, it became apparent that there is a need for more resources for dogs with mobility challenges.

About a year after bringing Scooter home, Marie met Olivia, an amazing pup who had persisted through abuse and trauma only to be hit by a car and left paralyzed in the rear end. Olivia also struggled with anxiety and behavior issues, which opened up a whole different challenge–finding a trainer and/or behaviorist who could accommodate Olivia’s special needs.

In all of the challenges and successes, with Scooter and Olivia’s care, as well as seeing those of animals like them, SCOOT TO THE STARS RESCUE came to life. It is our mission to not only provide animals with quality care, therapy, and training, but to also provide their families with the resources and support they need so they never feel alone. Together, we can help all dogs scoot to the stars!

Meet Angela Pace

Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist

Angie is another special member of our team and one of the kind, most generous people you could ever meet. She played an integral role in Scooter’s journey and was the one who walked Marie through everything that went into caring for a disabled dog. She advocated for Scooter and his rehabilitation, though he had no function in his hind end– Angie is the biggest reason Scooter is walking today and a huge part of bringing our mission at Scoot to the Stars Rescue to life.

To say Angie is passionate about helping animals is an understatement. It is our dream to help dogs with mobility impairments get the care and rehabilitation they need. We are grateful to have Angie on our team and astounded by her generosity towards animals in need as well as our community. Together, we are able to pull injured, abused, and neglected dogs into our care and offer comprehensive rehab assessments with specific treatment plans, brace and cart fittings, and various therapeutic modalities.

Angie was born and raised in rural Nevada. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology in 1995 and her Master of Science in Physical therapy in 2001 from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and later received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of St. Augustine. She completed her certification in canine rehabilitation at the Canine Rehabilitation Institute in 2018 which has allowed her to combine her knowledge and therapy skills with her love and passion for animals. She has since been working as part of a rehabilitation team at a veterinary specialty hospital in Reno, Nevada. In her spare time, Angie loves to hike, backpack, kayak, camp, and travel with her dog Zoey.
